In 2008 the UK government pledged £300 million to purchase laptops for poor income families but MPs have raised concerns that families will simply sell the laptops once received. The system would be almost impossible to police and only a small proportion of families would benefit as suppose to. Simply monitoring ‘E-Bay’ would not constitute any deterrent for families wanting to sell the laptops.
