The docx file extension was introduced in Microsoft Office 2007. It replaces the standard .doc file that most people are familiar with. If you can’t view these files then you can either:
1) Purchase Office 2007 or 2010 (available June 2010).
2) Currently download Office 2010 beta for free till October.
3) Download a patch for your existing Office.
4) Download the free Open Office 3 which is partly compatible with docx.
The docm file extension is similar to docx except that the files has macros attached. Macros are program files that are run (if allowed) when you open the document but can contain viruses which can damage the computer if malicious. Never open a macro if you don’t know the sender or think the email may be suspicious. The docm format alerts people that the file will contain macros.
